4/5 Stars for cleanliness. Place was clean, including in the corners and behind waste bins. Only suggestion would be to use a different cleaner on the sinks and taps so that do not leave water spots after you clean it.
1.5/5 Stars for Breakfast. I would avoid the breakfast. For beverages they had coffee (no decaf), hot water (packets of tea and hot chocolate), juice machine was out of order, and milk. For food they had frozen sausage and egg rounds with a sign that said "Microwave for 30 seconds", three kinds of individualized cereal boxes, basic grain products, tiny muffins (rock hard), Trix yogurt and a basket of apples. There were a handful of friendly customers in the nice eating area, but none of them were eating toasted items because the toasters were not fully plugged in. I had to follow an extension cord to find that a table was folded laying against the wall was pushing on the outlet to the point it was no longer plugged in. To discover this I had to move the table and see it and then plug it in.
Clean rooms. Beds were comfortable. Free WiFi. Free breakfast. Did not have very many open outlets for charging phones and other gadgets.
This gives 12/20 points which would be 3/5 stars.
Pros: Good parking. Pool was okay.
Improvement opportunities: Rooms were a little dirty, sheets were coming off the bed, there was an overflowing garbage can by the entrance, the breakfast offering was minimal, and there was no refrigerator in the room.
1.5/5 Stars for decor. This will change as the renovations are completed, but until then they deserve 1 to 1.5 stars. The rooms are dated but clean. The room we were in (that would fit us) had a Jacuzzi and the wall by the Jacuzzi has a large area of the wall where the wall paper has released from the wall do to excessive moisture (no signs of mold, this room was clean). There was a palms sized melt mark on the carpet and the sofa bed was broken and could only be used as a sofa (the lady at the front desk provided two day beds at no charge for us). There was a new flat screen TV in our room, which is the first signs of the renovations to come.
Used to be my favorite spot along I-75 (see previous review) when it was Hertiage Inn. We have stayed there 4-6 times a year for years using the coupons in the Highway magazines. Tried to stay there this week and discovered they no longer put out the coupons and had raised their "best price" by $10 for nothing other than the new name. Nothing seems to have changes since they were taken over by Baymont, except for a 20% price increase. The parking lot had only 2-3 cars, as is normal for mid-week there, but they insisted on the higher price even from a long time regular guest. So we went down the road about 20 miles and found a better property at a lower price in London. One would think the new owners would want to keep regular visitors on night when they are 90% vacant.
An okay lodging experience.
I gave this place 3/5 stars for the following reasons:
This place was recently purchased by Baymont Inn & Suites and will be changing/going through renovations and such. It was National Heritage Inn and Suites.
For a quick summary this place is clean and the the staff are friendly and helpful. But until the renovations are complete (upgraded to a typical Baymont Inn & Suite) the decor and breakfast are areas that need to be addressed. We paid $140 for a room (with a Jacuzzi) with two adults and three children (1, 3, and 5 years old). Note: this was the only room that we could find that would fit us.
5/5 stars for Customer service. My family and I (three children 5 and under, plus my wife) had been driving for 14 hours heading back from Florida. We did not know that there was a big concert going in the the area and finding a hotel was not easy. The hotel we were supposed to go to was unable to accommodate a 1 year old child, which lead us searching for a place. The lady at the front desk was very kind and helpful. She showed us the rooms first to make sure that it would work, even got us two day beds for no charge when it was discovered that our sofa bed was inoperable in our room. She answered every request and question with a find and friendly demeanor.
Have you been in a camper in the 80’s? The decor is the same here! Actually the bed sheets are the same light blue like in the hospitals.
